What I learnt about RUGBY!

On Sunday the 1st of November 2015, The All blacks are going to take on the Wallabies in the Rugby World Cup Final. So today on Friday our whole school are going to be wearing black to support the All Blacks.

We read a book about the history of Rugby. Here a some facts I learnt:
1. Rugby was created accidently by a Football player when he picked up the ball and ran.
2. In 1884 the first NZ Rugby team was made, and in the same year they toured Wales and Australia.
3. In 1891, a NZ women's Rugby team was supposed to go on tour, but it was cancelled because of the following protest: WOMEN DON'T PLAY RUGBY!
4. In 1970 Colin Meads broke his arm whilst playing against south Africa. It dangled painfully but he carried on. In 1999 he was named NZ's player of the century.
5. In 2010 the Women's Rugby Team won the World Cup for the Fourth time in a row.

We have supported the All Blacks all the way... AND WE NEED TO KEEP IT UP!
We can't celebrate yet, because we haven't won, but if we do we will make Rugby history for being the first team to win 2 World Cups in a row. Dan Carter and Richie McCaw are retiring at the end of the world cup, so it will be an amazing way to end their courier, especially because Dan Carter has never won a world cup through injuries.

Zentangle Art!

My Zentangle Art!
Over a long period of time, All students in our class chose, sketched and then finally drew an animal of their choice. I chose a Panda. First, We were all given a free choice of the animals that we wanted to draw. After we had chosen our animal, We started to sketch our animals in our art book. We were taught an easy way to do it. We split our page into 9 parts, and drew it square by square. I personally preferred it normally.  When we had chosen our final design we started to transfer it over to our final paper. Once the animal was done we added our Zentangles. We went over all of it with vivid and this is my final result.

New Move!!!!!!!!

Its been a great experience moving into room 1 & 2,  we get to see our new class and it's awesome!!! Its been so fun moving classes. We got move the furniture into the new class room, and when we weren't we got to do our inquiry. It took a while, and everyday we were waiting for the teachers to say it was time. On Monday they told us it might be today, and naturally, we were excited. but it was not to be. But is was to be the next day! They told us the big news: WE ARE MOVING TODAY.... YAAAAY! We all went crazy with excitement. We finally got to move into our new and improved class room. We got split into classes and did our inquiry. After a full day of inquiry, We had a look in the room. It was cool, but felt empty without the furniture and cabinets. We went home excited for the next day. In to school I went. I opened the door and KABOOM! The new class was ready! Furniture and all! Everything! It looked great. The breakout spaces were also better than expected, I couldn't wait to start the day.

My Educreation!

This is my educreation that I shared at my learning conversation!

My narrative so far:

All right lets go! Huh Huh Huh! “Is this really necessary?” Whispered Bob “I know for one I’m not to fond of the idea, responded Eddie in a nervous tone. The 3 men, Bob, Jeb and Eddie were getting ready to go on a potentially 2 month expedition. searching the deeps. They tried to concentrate on the what the future might bring, But all they could hear was the bellowing sound of the U.S. Army instructors terrifying voice echoing across the bridge. The shark face on the front of the SUB taunted them and warned them of what's to come.

Inquiry Term 3

For inquiry room 1 and 2 have been doing work on endangered or extinct animals or insects.
Animals are extinct or endangered because of many reasons: Over fishing, wildlife trades, diseases, habitat loss, invasive species, hunting or harvesting and pollution. I learnt that Kakapo is a nocturnal animal, and that they are endangered because they can't fly, so they can't build their nests in trees, so usually other animals eat their eggs. Conservation status is how rare or not rare it is, least being least concerned and most being extinct or critically endangered.

Zentangles!

These are zentangles.
In room 1 and 2 we have been making our own.
Zentangles are exciting and random pieces art. You need to draw random lines around the page, bigger the page, bigger the number of lines. Each area made from the lines needs to consist of different patterns, here's some examples:

Gymnastics

Today room 1 and 2 started our gymnastics sessions. Our group started off at the trampolines. Me an Luke played football with a bouncy ball when we were waiting for our turn. At last it was me and Luke's turn. Jin went in the middle, and me and Luke went on the tramps. 3 Minutes later it was time to get off. Me and Luke continued to play football while we waited to switch stations. Miss Mitschak counted Tahi Rua Toru Fa! And the whole room stopped. She instructed us to stop and rotate to the next group. We moved to station 4. This was my favourite one. We only do 2 or 3 a day, and today we did 2. Station 4 is where you jump on a bouncy pad and jump over a triangular shaped tower of foam squares, this is called the vault. We started of by landing on the top with our knees, then feet, and then we tried jumping all the way over, which I was really successful at. Miss Mitschak counted again and we all froze. Time to grab your shoes and walk back! Everyone from our classrooms walked back a put our stuff away. The Teacher told us that we need to write something to do with Gymnastics. And this leads up to now!

Making Kites!

Rendered Image
On Friday, the 26th of June room, 1 and 2 created kites.
There are tons of prizes. One prize is for the most traditional kite, That means the kite that is most related to Maori. Another prize is for most creative, so that prize was the one that had great ideas. There is also one that is the best plan, that means the best and creative thinking,  then building what’s on the plan. Before the end is the people's choice, where we get most of the classes of our school to vote on who’s they think is the best, not by who is the most popular.
Last but not least is the best teamwork award, Its for the team who worked best together.

Kite making involves lots of creativity and teamwork. Me and my buddy had all the materials we needed. I bought some cool stuff from home that would help us a lot. Tyton, collected some bamboo leaves that would make an awesome tail for our kite. The most creative and traditional kite got chosen by the lovely Mrs Sandifer. The most traditional kite was Annalise and And Olivia and the most creative kite was Liam and Celia.

Here is a picture of our kite:

22.6.15- Plant observation!

Thursday= 22cm
After weekend= 32cm
It grew 10cm in 4 1/2 days.
WOW

<<<<THURSDAY

<<<<MONDAY

The plant growth has happened really fast over the
weekend Look at the difference... It has already
reached the top. The green must produce good light
for the plant to grow. At the start it had 6 leaves.
After the weekend it now has 8 leaves. Its colour hasn't
changed, it only looks different in the photos because they
were taken in different places. The obstacles did not stop the
plant, but at the top it couldn't get out so it eventually snapped :(
Because it snapped I think the plant will die. :(

ART!

Our ART was being done with Mrs Tolsma. We painted flowers and made bugs with plastic and wires. I really enjoyed it. We started some new art with our own teachers. We are doing some art to do with Matariki. We are making Maori cloaks and making a wall about them. It needs basic designs that look good, its really fun! Here's a photo about our flower out with Mrs Tolsma:

Speed writing:

Yesterday I woke up thinking.. Man i’m tired. I had just finished the first week of school, and Saturday and Sunday. I knew it was school tomorrow, and we got Monday off for ANZAC day. Today is Monday, and i’m at my friends house, on Saturday I went to his house and came home later. Then the next day, Sunday, I went for a sleepover, and that leads up to now. Annoyingly I woke up at like 4:30, so I had to lay down for 2 and a half hours, and as I waited I started to feel very hungry. It was getting really annoying. Ruben finally woke up at 6:55, and we waited till 7:00 to get up. We headed downstairs and played on the Xbox. We waited for Rubens parents to wake up so we could have breakfast, toast! Mmm It felt so good to get food in my stomach after soo long! Me, Ruben Nathan and Sam all got a bit tired of the devices, so we all struggled up to the field at the top of the house to play cricket. We spent ages playing cricket, until it started to rain. The rain and wind blew around the house and we were forced to stay inside. Me and Ruben went back to playing nerf wars and playing on the Xbox, and Sam and Nathan went to go do whatever they were doing. Haha. It was such a great day.

This my speed writing a while ago, but I think Its kinda cool!

My own plant!

We also planted our own plant, I decided not to sacrifice my plant, and I kept it growing, even though its quite small compared to others:

Working in the garden!

This week I have been learning about measurement and shapes. I have learned how to measure using a ruler, like 1cm=1m. I learnt more about squared metre/ area. The trickiest part was finding out how much squares were in the whole garden, then taking away the squares that are taken up by building, but each square of grass was $3. I enjoyed choosing where to put the buildings on the map. Next time I need to make sure that I get the measurement right the first time.

Questions

Questions:
  • What did you discover?
That light bounces of mirrors on certain angles to create more light
  • What did you learn?
That different materials let more light through, AKA Translucent, Transparent, and Opaque
  • What part did you enjoy?
Placing mirrors in different places to make light travel from the front of the book to the back.
  • Describe one of the most trickiest moments
Holding the mirror on the exact angle to make a rainbow

Science experiments

PART 1

Today room 1 and 2 had a science day!
Our inquiry this term is light!
We did lots of cool experiments to do with light.
My favourite one was an experiment to do with mirrors and directing light. What we did is have a book standing up. We put one mirror on the front of the book, and then another mirror in front of it and a little bit to the right. The reason it was a little bit to the right is so when we use the torch to shine light on the mirror, it hits the front mirror, then the second mirror, and then the mirror behind the book catches light when the light hits the second one, travels across and then bounces off, then the light hits the back one and reflects it's light into the book, so it was a success.

ANZAC Limerick

There was a sad soldier
Who had injured his shoulder
He fought at night
And hid at daylight
Then he got stuck under a boulder.

He had finished Safely
As he left Gallipoli
He had a bullet in his arm
Which is how he was harmed
But afterwards he was happy

He got back and returned to his family
After the dreadful war in Gallipoli
His arm is better
His clothes are better
And he survived amazingly!

Limerick poem

WALT: Write a limerick
There was a scruffy dog
This dog was a ball hog
He came out at night
And to his delight
There was a jumpy frog

Along came Bob
Who forgot to cut his log
He saw a tree
so he did a pee
then he was attacked by a hog

Then a ball bounced
And the lion pounced
At the Auckland zoo
The tiger started to chew
Then the mouse came out the spouce

Term 1 reflection

  • Term 1 was amazing!
  • Camp was so cool, and fun.
  • I enjoyed doing all the art work
  • I was trying to be a good role model, and I think I did a pretty good job at that.

GO DOWN TO THE BOTTOM TO READ FROM THE START

PART 2!

I opened the door and stumbled down the hall, trying not to make to much noise, but the smell was unbearable. I crept closer and closer to the horrid stinky stench. It definitely was getting stronger. It had to be in the kitchen. I turned the corner and...

Journal writing: 2015 9/3/15

PART ONE!
all started one very dark night when I was lying in bed. A most disgusting smell entered my beloved bedroom as I read my new Diary of a Wimpy Kid book. It seemed to be coming from the kitchen. Something that bad must be a really bad recipe, wow. It became so strong and I just had to figure out what it was. I tried everything to get the smell out of my room. But nothing worked.
